Brenda Poplin Cripliver, 78, of Cornelius, North Carolina passed away peacefully at home on November 9, 2024, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Brenda was born on July 11, 1946 in Concord, North Carolina to the late Oscar Read Poplin and Louise Elliott Poplin. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Read Poplin and her sister, Elizabeth Poplin Godfrey.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of over 55 years, Steven Grimes Cripliver; her loving sister Janet Poplin Rogers of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania; and numerous treasured nieces and nephews.
Brenda was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, Class of 1964. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, North Carolina, and a Master’s degree in Education from UNC Greensboro. She was a lifelong advocate of education, spending over 42 years teaching at Lexington, North Carolina City Schools, Davidson County Community College, and the Davidson Academy. As one of the first kindergarten teachers in Lexington schools she gave substantial direction to the creation of this strong new early childhood adventure for her students. Brenda was an early innovator insofar as introducing technology and computers into the school classroom. She was widely respected and admired by her colleagues and supervisors for her dedication to her students and encouraged to undertake increased supervisory responsibilities. She resisted this effort because she did not want to give up her personal contacts with children and would miss seeing them learn and grow. A beloved teacher, Brenda was selected as the Lexington City School's Teacher of the Year and selected as a State Finalist in the Christa McAuliffe Teaching Fellowship Program.
Memorial Service plans have not been finalized at this time. Memorial donations may be made in Brenda’s honor to Pfeiffer University, Post Office Box 960, Misenheimer, NC 28109.
