Boyce McKnight Morrison, Sr

April 3, 1922 — March 16, 2011

Mr. Morrison graduated from Davidson College in 1946 (Class of 1943) and received his Masters degree from UNC Chapel Hill in 1950. He received his Ed.S. degree from the George Peabody College for Teachers (now part of Vanderbilt University) in 1970. He retired in 1987 as Assistant Superintendent of the Shelby (NC) Public Schools, after a 41 year career in education, the last 32 years in Shelby. Mr. Morrison served as a Quartermaster in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in England, France, and Germany. Mr. Morrison served as an Elder and Sunday School Teacher in various Presbyterian churches. His community involvement included the Lions Club, the American Red Cross, and the Head Start Advisory Council. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday March 21 in the Lingle Chapel of Davidson College Presbyterian Church where he was a member. Burial will follow at Mimosa Cemetery. The family will receive guests at The Pines, Davidson, NC from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm prior to the service.A devoted husband, father and brother, he leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Boyce McKnight Mack Morrison, Jr. and wife Alice A. Morrison of Flemington, NJ, David Stewart Morrison and wife Suzanne M. Morrison of The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren, Emily Caldwell Morrison of Brooklyn, NY, Robert Alexander Morrison of Flemington, NJ, Jonathan Stewart Morrison of Katy, TX; step-grandchildren, Lauren Michelle Mehlhorn of Hayward, CA, Kendall Marie Mehlhorn, Kelsey Louise Mehlhorn of The Woodlands, TX; brothers, John Alexander Morrison of Concord, NC and William Emerson Morrison, Sr. and wife Emmy Morrison of Davidson, NC.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vera Eugenia Ferguson Morrison in 2004; brother, Robert Edward Morrison, Sr.; sisters, Margaret Umberger and Janie Goodman. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for contributions to be made to The Pines Resident Support Fund, 400 Avinger Lane, Davidson, NC 28036 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Lake Norman, 705 Griffith Street, Suite 203, Davidson, NC. 28036.
