Beverly Clare Kissling Rosengren, formerly of Ridgewood, NJ and Jacksonville, FL, passed away peacefully from Alzheimer’s disease on March 9, 2021 in Davidson, North Carolina. She had lifelong love of ice cream, reading and shopping with a laugh that brought joy to many.
Beverly was born in Richmond, VA in 1929 and raised in Jacksonville, FL, daughter of the prominent Riverside Presbyterian Church minister, Reverend Albert Kissling and his wife Viola. She graduated from Lee High School as valedictorian and chaplain of the senior class before attending and graduating from the College of Wooster, where she met John H. Rosengren whom she would joyfully marry (he passed away in 1999). She obtained a masters in social work from Denver University.
Beverly was employed by the Westwood Board of Education as a school social worker for many years and served one term as president of the Bergen Country Association of School Social Workers. She was a member of the NJEA and several professional social worker organizations.
Beverly was a longtime congregant of the First Presbyterian Church of Ridgewood where she was a deaconess, Chair of the Mission Committee, Chair of the Library Committee, served on the Board of the Affiliated Nursery School and taught Sunday School. Through the church she became involved in Paterson Habitat for Humanity and was named their Volunteer of the Year in 2006 for her tireless work as a volunteer in the chapter’s office.
Later in life she reconnected with her high school boyfriend, John Lyles. Soon after, she moved to The Pines of Davidson, North Carolina, a retirement community, where John was a resident. The family is extremely grateful to John for his loving companionship and to his family’s support that continued after John passed away, especially Steedman and Cissi Lyles.
Beverly will be greatly missed by her sons, Eric (MA), Karl (Rochester, NY) and Paul (Glen Rock, NJ), their wives, Teruni Rosengren, Sarah Mangelsdorf and Betsy Golden, and her grandchildren, Marina (Hank Lanphier), Emily (Richard Lee), Michael, Casey, Danica, Julia and Mandy. She had one great grandchild, Hadrian. Beverly was predeceased by her sister Doris and brother Bruce and is survived by sisters Charlotte and Dolly, and brother Albert, Jr. (Janice) as well as loving nephews and nieces, who will all miss her good listening ear.
There will be a virtual zoom celebration of Beverly’s life followed, when it is safe, by a small family goodbye. A virtual Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 2:00PM.https://zoom.us/j/95718876241?pwd=MHRZY21vc3lWUzVIc3M0Rkp1UzBTZz09
