Mrs. Bettye Mozelle York Mayberry, 78, of Charlotte, NC died Monday October 28, 2013 at Presbyterian Hospital. Born April 4, 1935 in King, NC she was the youngest of eleven children of the late Marvin Lee York and Nellie Bullard York. She grew up in Union Grove, NC moving to Winston Salem after she graduated from high school. There she met and married Thurman James Mayberry in 1960 who preceded her in death in 1991. Bettye had so many friends in her life. She was an amazing Mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend. She was a member of the Eastern Star, employed at Western Electric, Montaldos in retail sales and became a private CNA. With the birth of their daughter, Candy, she became a homemaker and mother, a career she loved the most. In her retirement she moved to Charlotte to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law and grandsons. She made us all better people by being in our lives. She cared for everyone and was a giving, kind, loving and thoughtful individual. She loved and believed in God with all her heart. She had such a great compassion for people and was an amazing listener. She had such grace and elegance. There are none like her, she will be forever missed. Memorial services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013 in the Chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Candy Farmer and husband Jamie, grandchildren, Wesley and Jonathan Farmer of Charlotte; stepdaughter, Anita Lynn Briggs and husband Ray, grandchildren, Kevin and Stephen Briggs; sister, Elsie Tomiak of Ocala, Fl and Tom Anderson, her beloved friend & true companion that she loved dearly. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman; sisters, Lib Y. Poindexter, Nan Y. Brown, Anna Y. Campbell, Hazel Y. Smith; brother, Frank York and four brothers that died in their early years. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff of the CCU, 5 Fand 3C. Thank you for helping her and caring for this amazing woman. She is the strongest woman we know. We love her and we always will.
