Betty Colleen Sayers Thompson

Betty Colleen Sayers Thompson, 85, of Huntersville, NC, formerly of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday May 22, 2014. Betty was born on a farm in Missouri near Rocky Comfort on August 20, 1928 to the late James and Mildred MacGuire McNeill. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and loved by everyone who met her. She always greeted you with a warm smile, a twinkle in her eye and loved a great laugh. She enjoyed golf, music, dancing and reading. Betty was the first president of the Southwest Florida Junior Golf Association, and served in other board positions over many years. She is also past president of the Toastmistress Club. Betty was a member of Grace Methodist Church, volunteering for Martha's Circle; was a Stephen Minister; and volunteered at the Cape Coral Caring Center. She was a real estate broker with Staffile and Haywood for many years. Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William Thompson; brother, Orlyn McNeill; sister, Geralda Harbaugh. Betty leaves to cherish her memory her loving family; sons, Stanley Sayers, Stephen (Catherine) Sayers, Scott Sayers, Richard (Gail Ruth Peckham) Sayers, Jr., Thomas (Kathryn) Sayers; daughters, Marianne Sayers, Suzanne (Ken) Chelcun; grandchildren, Julia, Brianne, Mitchell, Elena, Luke, Dane, Nash, Colene, Adam; sister, Martha Harper; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 26, 2014 from 10 - 11 a.m. at the Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC with a funeral service at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. (Alz.org) 225 N.
