Betty Shields McMurray

Mrs. Betty Shields McMurray, 85 of Huntersville, NC died Friday January 9, 2015 at Genesis Elder Care. Born November 10, 1929 in Mecklenburg County she was a daughter of the late Thomas Lemly Shields and Ethel Hamilton Shields. She was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church where she served as secretary and retired from Huntersville Oaks, where she was a ward secretary. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Monday January 12, 2015 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church with Rev. Alan Purtill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the church. She is survived by her sons, Robert W. McMurray, Jr and wife Miriam of Brandon, MS, James Jay McMurray and wife Kelly of Huntersville; sister, Nancy Grice of Huntersville; grandchildren, Marcus, Bekka, Erin, Tyler and Nathan. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. McMurray, Sr in 2008, brothers, Thomas Shields, Jr and Charles Shields.
