Ben Dixon Routh, Sr., a cherished member of the community and a beloved family man, passed away on October 24, 2024 in Huntersville, NC, at the age of 91. Born on August 16, 1933, in Asheboro, NC, Ben dedicated over 50 years to a distinguished career in the banking industry, where he played a vital role in assisting with community development initiatives in Davidson, Cornelius and Huntersville. His commitment to fostering growth and development in these communities was commendable and reflected his deep-rooted values of service and dedication.
Ben was a graduate of Wake Forest University, having completed his studies in 1956. He met the love of his life, Nancy Kincaid Routh, after graduating from Wake Forest and they began marking the beginning of a partnership filled with love and support that lasted throughout their lives together. Ben's charming personality, intelligence, and great wit made him a beloved figure within the community, endearing him to friends and neighbors alike. He was known for his private yet loving demeanor, often putting others before himself and being a pillar of support for those in need.
As a father and grandfather, Ben was an exemplary provider, dedicating time to support his children, Ben Dixon Routh, Jr. and Sara Mitchell, in all their endeavors. He could always be found at every practice and sporting event, earning the respect and admiration of those around him. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Ben "Bo" Dixon Routh III and Malloree Rose Mitchell, who carry forth the values instilled in them by their beloved grandfather.
In his personal life, Ben balanced work with a variety of interests that brought him joy. He was an avid golf player and had a penchant for attending and tailgating at Wake Forest football games. Music was another of Ben’s great loves; he enjoyed listening to a wide range of genres and was known to engage in shag dancing well into his 80s. He had a captivating presence and could always elicit a smile.
Ben's commitment extended beyond his immediate family; he served as a caregiver for his mother, Edith Routh Campbell, for many years, embodying the values of love and responsibility which defined his life. He is preceded in death by his father, Rufus Fredrick Routh, his devoted wife, Nancy Kincaid Routh, his sister, LuEllen Hooper, and his oldest brother Robert "Bobby" Routh.
A memorial service to honor Ben’s life will be held on November 9, 2024, at Raymer - Kepner in Huntersville, NC, starting at 2:00 PM, with a celebration of his character and legacy to follow until 3:00 PM.
