Anthony Manganiello

Anthony "Tony" Manganiello, 93, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife Genevieve and family on Tuesday March 12, 2013. Tony was born on January 14, 1920 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Tony married Genevieve "Jean" Marrone, the love of life, on June 14, 1947 and they shared 66 wonderful years together. Tony and Jean were blessed with two daughters, Linda and Betty, both of whom cared for him in his declining years. Tony grew up in Jersey City, NJ, one of seven children, loved sports, especially baseball where he played with a semi-pro team prior to entering military service on March 12, 1942. A member of the greatest generation, Tony bravely fought in the European Theatre of Operations including France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Tony served in the 7th Armored Division, part of Patton's 3rd Army. He was a combat tank radio operator - NCO in the Battle of the Bulge where he earned the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle. Tony was discharged in October 1945 after the end of the war. Upon returning home from the war, Tony met Jean, fell in love and married her after he recovered from his wounds and subsequent related illnesses. Tony and Jean made their home in Jersey City until their daughters were 12 and 10 and moved to Iselin, NJ. Tony spent most of his career working as the manager of administration for Eggers and Higgins, a New York City based architectural firm. Upon retirement, Tony and Jean purchased a winter home in Bradenton, Florida which they enjoyed for many years. In 2008, Tony and Jean relocated to Huntersville, NC to be close to their daughters. Tony was predeceased by his parents Louis and Elizabeth (Sabbio) Manganiello, brother Nicholas, brother Vincent, sister Nancy DiCiancia and brother Gerard. Tony is survived by his loving and devoted wife Jean, daughter Linda Green and her husband Michael, his daughter Betty Manganiello, grandchildren Jaclyn (husband Brian), Genni, Robert, Anthony, Tara, Jonathan (wife Helen) and Kimberlie (husband Charles). He is also survived by his great grandchildren Andrew, Zachary and Henry. He is also survived by his brother Thomas and sister Catherine Jordan. The family expresses its sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at Presbyterian Hospice as well as the caregivers at Home Instead especially Julie, Donna, Tabatha, Michelle and Christine for their tireless dedicated service to Tony and his family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Presbyterian Hospice and Palliative Care, PO Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233-3549. The family will receive friends and family on Friday March 15 from 6 to 8 PM at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC 28078. A funeral service will be held on Saturday March 16 at 11 AM at St. Mark Catholic Church, 14740 Stumptown Road, Huntersville, NC 28078.
