Anna Floyd Sedlak

February 18, 1948 — May 28, 2015

While traveling with her husband in Emerald Isle, NC, Anna Floyd Sedlak, of Mint Hill NC, unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2015. Anna is and was truly unforgettable. She was a friend to all, considered herself "the Mother of the World" and was constantly found helping others. Born on February 18, 1948, in New London, CT, Anna was a Fiery Red Head who led an amazing life for 67 years and never had a dull moment. You could always find her with a genuine smile on her face, making new friends, shagging on the dance floor to a great beach tune, spending time with her grandchildren at the pool and beach or shopping for new accessories! Anna was a very active member of several Carolina Shag Clubs, including Boppers Shag Club, where she was fortunate enough to meet her Husband and Dance Partner, Milton Sedlak, of Mint Hill, NC. They loved camping at the beach and mountains, traveling, shagging and enjoying their friends for karaoke. She was an avid reader, an amateur photographer (with a camera glued to her hand), a world traveler, a lover of bluegrass festivals, a member of the "Red Hatters", active in the Harding High/West Reunions and a Former Eastern Star. She was also an active Girl Scout Leader in Boone, NC for over 16 years and guided many girls to their Gold Award. She continued to assist with her Daughters' Daisy Girl Scout Troop in Rock Hill, SC. Anna constantly befriended others, mentored so many young adults and has a true passion for children's education. After Graduating as Valedictorian from Central Piedmont Community College in 1968, Anna was a Dental Assistant Faculty Member at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she met her 1st husband, Dr. Steven Courtney Floyd, of Bradenton FL, who preceded her in death in December, 2000. Together, they opened the First Family Dental Center in the Boone/Blowing Rock Area that focused on providing affordable care to everyone, regardless of insurance. They opened their hearts and office to all families and often accepted apple pies or Christmas trees as a form of payment. Anna moved to Charlotte, NC in 2001 to be close to her daughters and extended family. Upon moving to Charlotte, she was welcomed into the Shag Dance Community and always enjoyed SOS Celebrations at North Myrtle Beach. She often volunteered her time for Vacation Bible School, Children's Miracle Network, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society and The National Psoriasis Foundation. From the Mountains of North Carolina, to the Emerald Isle Coast, you could always find the "Trail of Glitter" that Anna left behind her. She sparkled at everything in life! Anna, affectionately known as "Granna" to her dear grandchildren, was also welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Anna Sabas Taland and Chief Petty Officer Albert Thomas Taland and nephew, Christopher Keith Bustle. She leaves behind an loving husband, Milton Sedlak of Mint Hill, NC; Daughters Kellie Floyd Payne and husband Tracy Payne, of Rock Hill, SC; Paige Floyd Grassi and husband David Grassi Jr. of Charlotte, NC; Step-Children Jessica Sedlak, Andrea Sedlak Sanders, Rob Sanders, Nathan Sedlak and wife Ashley Sedlak. She leaves an amazing legacy of five Grandchildren: Miss Olivia and Annaliese Payne; Miss Ava Grace Sedlak, Miss Savanna Sanders and Master Evan Sanders. Also surviving are her sister Donna Taland Bustle and husband Charlie, sister Marie Taland Carland and husband Rody as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and others who considered her their second mother. Because Anna was infamously known for being "fashionably late," A Celebration of Life (or Shutombudom, as she would call it) will be held on Saturday, June 13th at 2:34pm at Harrison United Methodist Church, 15008 Lancaster Highway, Pineville NC 28134. Following the ceremony, the family will hold a Dessert Reception in the Fellowship Hall. Please BYOD (bring your own dessert to share) and wear your shagging shoes. All attendees are requested to wear bright colors, loud accessories, gaudy jewelry and sun hats, in honor of Anna's Sassy Southern Style, as "Laughter through Tears was her favorite emotion." In lieu of flowers, Anna would wish for you to invest in a Child's Smile! Please make donations to Operation Smile, www.operationsmile.org; 3641 Faculty Boulevard, Virginia Beach, VA 23453, 1-888-OPSMILE.
