Ann Adair Prohoniak, 59, of Charlotte, NC died on August 5, 2016. Born January 26, 1957 in Portsmouth, VA, she leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 30 years, Paul Michael Prohoniak of Charlotte, and her daughters Capt Tracy Adair Prohoniak Stacey, USMC, of San Diego, CA, and Melanie Ann Prohoniak of Charlotte, NC.
In addition to her husband and daughters, Ann is survived by her parents Allen and Linda Higginbotham of Sarasota, FL, and two brothers: Robert and his wife Patti of Fairfax, VA, and David and his wife Coleen of San Francisco, CA.
Ann is also survived by nieces, Julia Higginbotham Engel of Houston, TX, Claire Higginbotham Speer of Minneapolis, MN, Emily Higginbotham of Richmond, VA, Sarah Higginbotham of Blacksburg, VA, Amy Higginbotham of Fairfax, VA, and one nephew, Peter Higginbotham of Phoenix, AZ. Ann is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Linda B. Higginbotham of Minneapolis, MN, and Vicki Fredericks of San Diego, CA. Ann was preceded in death by her brother, CDR Allen B. Higginbotham, Jr., and her in-laws, Paul Prohoniak and Joann Prohoniak Gercken.
Ann was a native of Virginia. She met her husband, Paul, on a blind date in October 1984, and they were married on April 19, 1986. Paul was the love of Ann's life, and she told him so every day.
Ann was a graduate of the College of William and Mary, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and a cheerleader. She was voted Homecoming Queen in 1978 at her brother Allen’s alma mater, Virginia Military Institute.
Ann was a high energy, fast-talking multi-tasker who loved her life, her church, her friends, and, most importantly, her family. In addition to working full-time, over her life Ann volunteered as a church greeter and communion coordinator, with American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and Room in the Inn programs, and in her children’s schools when they were growing up. She was employed for over 16 years at Wells Fargo/Wachovia, the last few years as a Project Manager.
A celebration of Ann's life will be held at 1 o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, August 13, 2016, with a reception following the ceremony, at University City United Methodist Church, 3835 West W.T. Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28269.
In lieu of flowers, Ann requested memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation, Levine and Dickson Hospice House-Huntersville, or to her church, University City United Methodist in Charlotte, NC. Ann's ashes will be scattered at her most favorite place, near the sun, ocean, and sand at Sandbridge Beach in Virginia.
