Andy Burke, 76, beloved husband and father, father-in-law and friend, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on July 12th, 2021.
Born in Paterson, NJ, in 1944, and raised in nearby Fair Lawn, Andy was an excellent student and three-season athlete. He attended the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and met his wife of fifty-three years, Cindy, on a blind date. Andy worked in the aerospace industry for forty-five years, moving with his young family to Fort Walton Beach, FL in 1973 to work as a systems engineer for the Department of Defense and, after his retirement from government work, Jacobs Engineering. He was a devoted member of his church’s softball teams and later an avid golfer who enjoyed meeting friends for an early round at the golf club near his home.
Andy enjoyed a host of hobbies over the course of his life, including woodworking, coins, rock tumbling, photography, and wine. When he and his wife moved to Niceville, FL, he was on the board of his neighborhood HOA, where he smoothed tempers and improved his community with humor and humility.
In 2017, he and Cindy relocated to Charlotte, NC, to be nearer their daughter, Diane, and he quickly became a valued spectator at local Kannapolis baseball games.
In addition to Cindy and Diane, Andy is survived by his son Andy and his wife Erin, and daughter Katie and her husband Marc.
A funeral service in his honor will be held Saturday, July 17th, 2021 at the Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home at 2:00pm, with a visiting hour starting beforehand at 1:00pm.
Condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.kepnerfh.com, and flowers may be sent to 16901 Old Statesville Rd, Huntersville, NC. Interment will take place at the Carolina Memorial Park of Concord, 601 Mt. Olivet Rd, Concord, NC 28025.
