Amy Carol Dayton

Amy Carol Dayton, 84, of Davidson, North Carolina died September 7, 2016. Carol was born in Morristown, New Jersey and was raised in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. She was educated at schools in Mountain Lakes, Northfield School for Girls in Massachusetts, and at the University of Kentucky.

At Kentucky Carol majored in Social Work and minored in Psychology. She was elected to Mortar Board, the Student Union Board and on the Dean’s List for four years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edward T. and Carolyn (Rice) Milkey and her sister Sarah Jane Morgan.

She is survived by her husband, Everett; her children, Debra Westenberger from Boonton, NJ, Britt Dayton and his wife, Lydia, from Davidson, NC, Amy Ustupski and her husband John from Amelia Island, FL. She also leaves six grandchildren, Alan Westenberger, Diana Westenberger, Matthew Westenberger, Amanda Ustupski, Caroline Dayton, and Rebecca Dayton.

Carol has been married to her husband, Everett, for 59 years. She was a homemaker for many years during their early years together although she spent many hours in volunteer activities. One of her main activities was as a member of Riverside Hospital’s Board of Directors and finally became Administrator of Riverside Hospice.

As the Hospice Administrator she worked closely with the National Institutes of Health to convince them that Hospice was a worthwhile program and should be funded by the government. During this time Carol was elected Woman of the Year by Beta Sigma Phi sorority in New Jersey.

In retirement years the family moved to Punta Gorda, Florida and lived at Seminole Lakes Country Club where they continued volunteer activities and belonged to Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club and Twin Isles Country Club.
