Aileen Nathan

d. February 14, 2019

Aileen Ellin Nathan, passed away peacefully on her birthday, February, 14, 2019, at the Levin & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC.

Aileen Nathan was born on February 14, 1927 in New York City to Murray and Ruth Wagner and grew up on Long Island with her two sisters, Joan and Barbara. On December 16, 1950, she married her husband, Jack Nathan, and a year and day later, her beloved daughter, Susan Vidal was born.  While she happily followed her daughter, Susan, to California, Florida, and finally North Carolina, she was always in a New York state of mind.  She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Nathan, her daughter Susan Vidal (Nathan), her sister Joan Smith, and her mother and father Ruth and Murray Wagner.  She is survived by her son Edward Vidal, of Mooresville, NC, her granddaughters Melissa Volk (husband Ronnie] of Sarasota, FL, Lauren Ladenheim (husband Matthew), of Huntersville, NC, and her sister Barbara Ordover, of Marietta, GA. She is also survived by her 5 great-grandchildren: Rylee Volk, Maddox Volk, Avery Volk, Jackson Landenheim, Grayson Ladenheim, and many loved nieces and nephews.

Aileen had an extremely colorful personality.  Those who knew her would consider her a cantankerous spitfire, who was never afraid to tell you exactly what was on her mind.  She was an avid reader and shopper who knew every sales person at Banana Republic and Barnes & Noble by first name.  She was always busy and on-the-go, even when it seemed unlikely that she could possibly have any more errands to run. She never wanted to just sit around.

She was a lover of dogs, travel, the arts, and the sound of her daughter’s voice when she would sing and play the piano.  Her daughter Susan was her entire world and Aileen’s happiest memories involved spending days with her. She also loved tennis, swimming, biking, and walks on the beach.

She loved clothes and the latest styles and had a better wardrobe than most people half her age.   She needed to dress the part, because age to her was only a number not a reality.  She really never looked or acted her age. So, when she finally came to the realization that she couldn’t stop the passage of time and the process of aging, she decided it was “her time”.  And the woman that we never thought would ever slow down, passed peacefully on the same day she came into world, 92 years later.

The family will be celebrating her life privately.
